Not every roof problem is an emergency, and treating every one like it is doesn't actually help you. This guide explains what genuinely needs an urgent call, what you can safely leave for a normal booking, what to do in the first few minutes while you wait, and exactly how we handle it when you call.

Is it actually an emergency?

Knowing the difference saves you money and gets the right response at the right speed.

If you're genuinely unsure which category you're in, call us and describe what you're seeing — or send a photo on WhatsApp. We'd rather give you an honest answer over the phone than have you wait anxiously or pay for an emergency call-out you didn't need.

What to do in the first few minutes

1. Move valuables and electronics away from the affected area, including anything below where water is tracking.
2. Contain active drips with a bucket or container, and lay towels or a tarp to protect flooring underneath.
3. Do not go onto the roof yourself. It isn't worth the risk, and it can make our job harder once we arrive.
4. If a ceiling is bulging with trapped water, that's a job for us to deal with safely — don't attempt to puncture or clear it yourself.
5. Call us directly rather than only filling in a contact form — it's the fastest way to get an honest answer on timing.

How we respond

Every emergency call-out follows the same sequence:

1. Phone triage. We ask what you're seeing and where, so we bring the right materials and can judge genuine urgency.
2. Same-day attendance wherever we can manage it, weather and existing bookings permitting.
3. On-site risk assessment before any work starts — checking the area is safe to work on.
4. The repair itself — a proper fix wherever conditions allow, using materials we carry on the vehicle as standard.
5. A full check of the roof and guttering while we're up there, not just the reported problem.
6. An honest report on what we found, with a clear quote for anything beyond the immediate emergency.

Why we won't claim 24/7

Plenty of roofing websites promise 24-hour, round-the-clock emergency cover. We operate 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than make a promise we can't keep at 3am on a Sunday. What we can promise within those hours is a genuinely fast, same-day response and a straight answer on timing when you call — which matters more than an unverifiable claim on a website.

Temporary fix vs proper repair

Our aim on every emergency visit is a proper repair on the day, not a stopgap. We carry slates, concrete and clay tiles, ridge and hip tiles, lead flashing materials and heavy-duty tarpaulins as standard, which covers the large majority of emergency repairs in a single visit. Where a permanent repair genuinely can't be completed — failing light, unsafe wind conditions, or a specialist material we need to source — we make the roof safe and weathertight with a proper temporary cover, and return to complete the permanent repair as soon as conditions allow. We'll always tell you clearly which one you're getting and why.
